In Episode 6 of the Pest Perspectives Podcast, I’m joined by Vicky Hall from Ladybug Pest Control for a really open and honest conversation about pest control, business, drainage, mental health and being a woman in a male-dominated industry.

Vicky talks about her journey through pest control and what eventually led her to set up Ladybug Pest Control in 2016.

We discuss the realities of working out in the field, dealing with difficult pest situations, speaking confidently with customers and why pest controllers sometimes have to tell people that the pest problem they believe they have simply isn’t there.

A big part of the episode also focuses on rats and drainage.

Vicky explains how learning more about rats leaving the sewer network completely changed the way she approached rodent jobs. She talks about working with and learning from Davy Brown, the importance of CCTV drain surveys, and why sometimes the real solution to a recurring rat problem is finding the entry point rather than simply continuing to trap or bait.

We also talk about building a pest control business, growing a team, charging properly for your knowledge and why specialist services can completely change the value of the work you provide.

Vicky also shares some very personal parts of her story, including going through an extremely difficult period in her life and how rebuilding her business and finding her own identity helped her move forward.

There’s also plenty of lighter conversation, including her appearances on TV, meeting Ant & Dec and some of the characters and experiences she’s come across during her years in the pest control industry.
